What makes a device digital?  How does the World Wide Web affect us at CJH?  How do you know if a computer is on and if it is not, how to turn it on?

Chapter 1 Digitools

What makes a device digital?

How to turn on the computer and know that it is on.

Web browsing security issues and acceptable use policy review.

SKILLS

Students will be able to determine whether a device is digital.  Know how to tell if your computer is on when you approach it.  Know how to set up folders for storage of personal documents.  The students will know their student password and be able to access their student folder on the network.  Students will know what acceptable use of the UPSD network is and what unacceptable use is.  All students will have parents sign a computer use agreement. Students improve their typing speed and accuracy using Typing.com website

What is a memo, letter, envelope, report or table?  How are each formatted?  How are they used in the business world?  How will I use them in my education?

Word – learn how to set up memos, letters, envelopes, reports and tables.

SKILLS

Students learn how to correctly format memos, letters, envelopes, reports and tables.  Students learn to use various menu items in Word that are used most frequently.  Students improve their typing speed and accuracy using Microtype software

Can we use Voice Recognition software in all aspects of interfacing with the computer?

PowerPoint – learn how to easily develop a slide show presentation.

SKILLS

Students use excel spreadsheets to develop data tables.

Students use data tables to construct charts and graphs.

Develop documents that have charts and graphs in them.

Students improve their ability to develop professional PowerPoint presentations.

Students improve their typing speed and accuracy using Microtype software.

Students learn and increase efficiency of using the 10 key pad on the keyboard with Microtype.
